Mayos and Chapitos at War in Mexico

This week, which happens to include Mexico’s September 16 Independence Day celebration, more than 30 people have been killed in Culiacán Sinaloa. This violence is directly related to the recent arrests of Chapo Guzmán’s son in the United States, which appears to have been a surrender and the capture/trickery of Mayo Zambada who was brought to US territory and arrested with Chapo Guzmán’s son. Experts had long predicted that this would lead to a confrontation between the sons of Chapo Guzmán faction of the Sinaloa cartel known as the Chapitos and the Mayo Zambada faction headed by one of his sons. It appears this has been the case and there has been significant violence in Culiacán including the US government issuing warnings related to roadblocks and burning vehicles.
